iWalk and 5K Run for Vision

Working with the Greater Chicago Community, the University of Illinois – Urbana Champagne Hope for Vision student group held the first annual iWalk and 5K Run for Vision. Led by UIUC student Ashley Soriano, over 200 hundred walkers and 40 student volunteers raised over $23,000 for HFV.

 

Many walkers chose to participate in The Experience,” a way for sighted people to understand what it is like to have low or no vision. Walkers were given a special mask that simulated what it’s like to have various diseases and were led through the walk with a guide.

 

This first iWalk was so successful, Hope for Vision hopes to replicate it at university campuses across the country, and Ashley Soriano and her mom Nanci are helping to lead the way along with iWalk Coordinator Janis Morrow.For more information on how you can get involved email janis@hopeforvision.org.
